what the heck is this sorcery, why won't these huge h264 videos compress any better than that with h265 or av1 without looking terrible

@fugi maybe there's a bias introduced through your extended knowledge of h264 encoding parameters vs. your less-extended knowledge of h265 and av1 encoding parameters :3

@star ehh I think at least for h264 and h265 I know about the same, and I tried quite a few different settings and different encoders even ^^'

@fugi rule of thumb (from reddit) is h265 for 4k hdr, h264 for 1080p

@stellavie that's not the point here πŸ˜…
and h265 can definitely be much smaller (factor 2-5x) for e.g. entertainment media at 1080p at the same quality (to my eyes).
