Long; Just a text about masks, respirators and my experience with them; excitement for new respirator and accommodation of my sensory needs

I am excited to try my new respirator (3M HF-802SD)!

It supposedly solves a lot of painpoints I personally have had with my old respirator (3M 6000 series knockoff), which itself was an astronomical improvement over regular FFP2/FFP3 quarter masks and actually made everyday wear of a P2/P3 mask accessible to me. Wearing masks has always been a sensory nightmare for me, which is the main reason for why I had personally stopped wearing them some time after pandemic regulations were lifted (except for in the winter, where the sensory experience is even more hellish, but the more palpable risk of spreading and receiving infections has been a good enough motivator for me to wear a mask anyway).

In particular, condensation/sweat buildup, a fit which always left me guessing as to whether I was wearing the mask most optimally, fogged up/moist glasses and the used mask smell have been my largest issues with traditional FFP2 quarter masks. All of these issues have mostly been solved with the 6000-series half-mask respirator!

But some remained, and the new form factor also brought some of its own issues with it, even if those were orders of magnitude less severe than those I had with traditional masks:
- The glasses experience wasn't quite fixed. The 6000-series respirator doesn't attempt to accommodate glasses in any way. I always had to slide the bottom rim of my glasses under the respirator's nose piece, which was weird and also uncomfortable over longer periods of wear. The HF-800SD should solve this by, well, actually making an attempt to accomodate glasses!
- The bajonet filter attachment is not optimal. I mean, it looks cool as fuck, but even with the filters properly attached, sometimes I caught them not being properly attached. The HF-800SD should solve this by using the SecureClick attachment mechanism, which you can imagine like using a seatbelt. Click it in place, and it you know it's safe. It's also not going anywhere until you press a button and pull!
- With the 6000 series respirator, I have always been quite hard to understand, particularly in noisy environments. The HF-800SD has a speech diaphragm (hence the "SD"), which makes me sound a little robotic (can also be seen as a massive win, actually) but definitely very understandable!

Pakidge arrived, but unfortunately I have been sick. Tomorrow though I might be able to try it, if I do not forget!

@LilaHexe @ncl But ACTUALLY maybe that's also just another problem with the acronym, which is that it is an extremely vague thing setting no concrete expectations for anyone, making it so that 5 people joining a FLINTA event have 5 differing views on what "FLINTA" actually entails and so on
