@iro_miya So, yes, a bunch of it has already been said here, but

- X509 is a standard that has been used for decades and makes up every single SSL certificate that exists. Its most common use is to represent websites, servers or other inanimate objects, but polyproto uses them to represent individuals. This is also not a horrible misuse of the technology, just something that isn't usually done (except in enterprises maybe). Using this is very cool because soooooooo many libraries, docmentation sources and other tooling exists to create, validate and use these resources properly. Nothing new needs to be invented from a cryptographic standpoint.
- polyproto will natively support plurality and representing yourself differently in different contexts (e.g. a profile for your work setting, one for friends, one for, idk, kinky stuff; whatever you'd like)
- You can perform a migration even if your home server is uncooperative or just no longer online, and the protocol is designed in a way that, if used as intended, you can migrate messages/data you've sent in the past to your new account as well, meaning that you can take posts/messages/data with you to your new account
- I'm really trying to not do anything that is cool on a technical level but that doesn't really work reliably in practice. My personal end goal is to build a federated discord replacement that is actually good, and that requires that application to be as grandparent-proof as possible

Of course, some of these things are simplified for the sake of explainability, but yea 3_transgender
