@kayttaja sadly mullvad is owned by Nazis. Would go with proton or something decentralized

Mullvad and Proton both dont do port forwarding so they're not very useful for torrenting and alike anyways

I've heard good things about AirVPN

@alexia @stellavie torrenting also seemed mostly ok on mullvad after they closed down portforwarding with just nat punching

@kayttaja @alexia @stellavie yeah it's not like you can't torrent without port forwarding, you just gain access to more seeders if you do (the one's who don't port forward themselves). If you have the choice get one with port forwarding, but I've been doing completely fine without too.

@fugi @kayttaja @stellavie @alexia Port forwarding is pretty much essential though for, for example, seeding on soulseek; that might be good to keep in mind. That, for example, is why I want to move to AirVPN. Otherwise, how will people be able to download Ubuntu 24.04 LTS from me 🥺

@star @stellavie @alexia @fugi @kayttaja even soulseek can share without port forwarding, it's just that one end must forward, afaik?

if you're sharing on soulseek then you
should port forward so clients who don't can still reach you, though, yeah.

@5225225 @stellavie @alexia @fugi @kayttaja In my experience, you cannot effectively seed on s2 without port forwarding. My seed rate is abysmal, and that's not because I don't try.
