do you wanna help with replacing it? go check out polyproto!
we're slowly inching towards defining a specification and implementing it so that we can build our very own federated discord-type chatting program :)
doesn't mean we want it to be a clone, though! we would like to take some...creative liberties down the line but that's for the future.
For now, if you're interested in working on this and wanna pick up some low-hanging fruit in rust or want to write documentation and specifications, we'd love to have u around!
also, feel free to leave questions! I've been meaning to write up an FAQ anyways.
@alexia@polyproto Has any thought been given to screen reader accessibility? I'm a completely blind software developer and would love to contribute here and maybe help make this a far more accessible and better platform than Discord.
@TheQuinbox@alexia I am trying my very best when it comes to making an accessible development space. I keep learning new things on how to make things more accessible and apply them as soon as I have a clue on how to. If something turns out to not be accessible, then I consider that a failure of our efforts, try to improve on it immediately, and try to change processes to not have a failure like this happen again. That is all I can say regarding this. :)
@polyproto@alexia I just wish you weren't using Codeberg, but that's not your fault, it's the fault of the people at codeberg who refuse to fix basic accessibility issues despite maintainers commenting on the issues.
@alexia@polyproto Forgejo as a software primarily, yes. The general attitude of the Codeberg developers when someone tries to help isn't particularly great either.
