ai/llms @thing i think calling helix slop is a bit over the top, but most certainly not a very helpful descriptor. out of over 7700 commits made in the lifetime of helix, a singular one, made on march 14th, was co-authored by claude. yeah, it sucks that that happened, but i really do not think that this makes the entirety of helix "slop"

ai/llms @star @thing Can we stop finding excuses to reduce this as if it was insignificant?
If we were able to work on our software without any LLM from the beginning, there's no reason to allow even a single commit to pass through
This is how most projects are becoming more welcoming of LLMs, let's not get fooled

ai/llms @stilic @thing And this is also not how projects become more accepting of LLMs

It's how discussion gets sparked around this happening, and it engages individuals to push for a policy which bans this from happening. And the fact that that is happening is good! But in the terms of the quality of the software? A single commit of regular size being co-authored by an LLM is largely insignificant. What is significant, in my opinion, is making nuanced discussions about the topic as a whole very hard by conflating and calling things names in a way that doesn't help anyone or anything

ai/llms @stilic @thing I mean, who the hell does it help to call things "slop" that have obviously been created with more hard work and dedication than a lot of us have ever put into anything? It's extremely important to criticize the usage of AI here and everywhere else, and I think it is extremely valid to be upset about this happening and make that heard! That's how change actually happens! But just calling something "slop" and moving on isn't at all how you create change. It's how you alienate those you are trying to bring to your side

ai/llms @star @stilic fine. ok then.

ai/llms @star @thing If there are other projects that did the right choice already, there's a point at which it becomes tiring to have the benefit of doubt towards those that didn't worry about it yet
This isn't an unknown phenomenon anymore, we have to act now, and not by letting a commit (yes, even one, even if it's just "coauthored by <llm>") of that kind enter their Git repository

ai/llms @star @thing I'm just not in the mood to give chances there and there anymore
If they weren't able to deal with the problem already, they must live under a rock
I kept dealing with projects where the devs are barely willing to do it in good faith for the users
It has gotten to a point where the project doubled down on its original decision, fully embraced LLMs
and openly criticize those against their move (see: the Limine situation)
