ok fedi. real talk. what's the right decentralized messaging protocol to back?

cause for a while I've been thinking about contributing to a decentralized messaging project. it seems like that's where we most need open source developers right now. but I genuinely don't know where to go.

is it Matrix? do we just need to keep fixing Matrix until it works? I keep hearing people talk about it like it's a lost cause. is there an alternative that has an actual chance of succeeding in the mid to long term?

what's the strategy here?

@evening @mei Hello neodog_floof_cute
No, but, genuinely: Matrix is not it. We are trying to learn from all the mistakes of XMPP, Matrix and others and make a protocol which is decentralized, long-term sustainable and most importantly accessible to the masses and everyone else by prioritizing UX over all else! Do take a look, if you are interested. polyproto-core is already implementable, even if only 85% finished.

@polyproto @mei @evening can it be deployed at all yet?

you'd probably see more engagement if people could already start poking at it as a tangible thing

@zaire @mei @evening Sadly not, since 95% of the time spent working on it has been just me, so far
