polyphony + polyproto = A free and open source communications suite in the making. Federated, decentralized, delightful to use.

codeberg codeberg.org/polyphony

Proprietary chat services suck. The Polyphony project aims to change that by developing @polyproto, a federated identity and trusted message exchange protocol, as well chat software and -standards built on top of it. We are building sonata (a polyproto home server for identity federation), symfonia (a chat server implementing polyproto-chat), and a client to tie it all together. Our goal is a federated chat experience that feels at least as polished and easy to use as proprietary alternatives.

Apart from all this, Polyphony can be best described as a queer and indie software commons bringing radically cool, free, open source software, communications technology and -standards to a computer near you.

Through the MPL-2.0 license, we ensure that our software can be used by anyone, for any(-ish) purpose. The only major thing we ask is that improvements and changes to our software stay open source as well. Our software should benefit the public, not corporations.

Additionally, our Code of Conduct is a modified version of the Contributor Covenant, explicitly including otherkin and plural individuals and explicitly banning AI contributions.

An anti-establishment establishment

A roadmap for the work scheduled for sonata, our polyproto-core home server.
After the first release in December, we'd like to pivot most of our efforts onto building polyproto-chat with a server and a first, usable client. 💜
Infographic titled "sonata Roadmap" in a purple and pink gradient with cloud, star, and sparkle decorations, showing a dotted purple line connecting six colored circles (pink for Done, purple for In Progress, white for Planned) to a central "Alpha" circle, with five white cards placed along the path, a purple server rack icon bottom left, and a purple satellite dish icon bottom right; the title reads "sonata Roadmap" with subheading "What we have planned for the polyproto-core home server. This is subject to change at random!" alongside a legend for Done, In Progress, and Planned, and the cards read: "Auth Basics" (Jul, Done): connect to an auth provider, everything needed to log in; "ID-Certificates" (Aug, In Progress): create actor certs, fetch certs from other servers, validate certs per specification; "Peer authentication" (Nov, Planned): authenticate on someone else's home server; "First release!" (Dec, Planned): self-host your own sonata instance with a test route for sending messages; "Extending for chat" (Feb, Planned): APIs for extension servers and WebSocket real-time exchange, building around polyproto-chat's needs!

We are very sorry about the partial slopscore outages over the past days! I have applied the latest batch of fixes yesterday evening and since then, scans appear to have went through in a stable manner again. Should be fixed now! neocat_floof_cute
