polyphony + polyproto = A free and open source communications suite in the making. Federated, decentralized, delightful to use.

Proprietary chat services suck. The Polyphony project aims to change that by developing @polyproto, a federated identity and trusted message exchange protocol, as well chat software and -standards built on top of it. We are building sonata (a polyproto home server for identity federation), symfonia (a chat server implementing polyproto-chat), and a client to tie it all together. Our goal is a federated chat experience that feels at least as polished and easy to use as proprietary alternatives.

Apart from all this, Polyphony can be best described as a queer and indie software commons bringing radically cool, free, open source software, communications technology and -standards to a computer near you.

Through the MPL-2.0 license, we ensure that our software can be used by anyone, for any(-ish) purpose. The only major thing we ask is that improvements and changes to our software stay open source as well. Our software should benefit the public, not corporations.

Additionally, our Code of Conduct is a modified version of the Contributor Covenant, explicitly including otherkin and plural individuals and explicitly banning AI contributions.

@hexa Yes. For this ratio, penalties are being reduced to 4% of their original value. While that is a 96% reduction, this still stacks, of course. The rating is as expected.

Yeah; we want to tackle this problem somehow, but we are not quite sure on how to best do that yet. It's something that is being actively discussed right now, and that we are hoping to solve some time soon :)

@magnetic_tape That's a good idea and something we can do. What might help in the meantime: The score also has a tier from S-tier for "best" to F-tier for "worst" alongside it. Though I understand that not everyone might be familiar with this system.

The scoring system in slopscore has been completely re-done! foxjump

First: The way signals are tracked stays the same. If a repository had 25 AI-generated commits detected before, that'll still be just the same. The only thing that was touched was the way the score (100 (S)–0 (F)) gets calculated.

Instead of treating every detected AI/slop signal equally, slopscore now tracks the share of tainted commits across a repository.

This means: It now makes a significant impact whether the repository is made up of slop commits to 1% or, say, 50%. Repositories with lower slop-densities get gentler penalties, while high-density repos get scored significantly harsher. It just didn't feel right that 10 slop commits got scored the same, whether the repo only had 15 commits, or already had 10000 commits.

This feature has been in beta for a while and the new scoring curve has been tested for a while before it finally got merged and deployed today. ablobcat_bounce

A roadmap for the work scheduled for sonata, our polyproto-core home server.
After the first release in December, we'd like to pivot most of our efforts onto building polyproto-chat with a server and a first, usable client. 💜

Today in sonata, basic logic for fetching and verifying actor ID-certs from peers was implemented. Required next steps are persisting these in the database and adding more checks for full polyproto spec compliance neobot_melt_happy xena-the-server
