llm discourse, not too heavy but we're all tired So regardless of all the other reasons to treat it like the plague, one reason I could never use LLMs is I'm an iconoclast. Card carrying and proud, it means I reserve the possibility* of being correct on topics that the mainstream gets wrong, but it means I am maybe more dependent than average on pushback from smart people with different blind spots than I have.

LLMs are, for the most part, configured to be the opposite of this steelman grindset. The sycophancy can be obvious, but it can also be subtle. I am the right neurotype to be separated from the herd by predators. Self-awareness about that is self-defense. I've seen people like me go off deep ends where, past the event horizon, "nobody understands me except the bobot." I've seen enough cautionary tales to not be one myself.

*not something I mistake for a guarantee, in case that somehow wasn't obvious from the rest of the post

llm discourse, not too heavy but we're all tired @MaddieM4 Αυτο!!! I need to constantly remind myself that so far I've been wrong about pretty much everything I've ever expressed an opinion about and found out, and even knowing this I still end up giving people an impression of someone stubborn and stuck in their beliefs. Imagining myself hooked on an auto-sophistry machine, it's just fucking tragic
