I am very excited to be trying out , finally. Less so to be installing NodeJS on a machine I care about. I think I can keep the grossness minimal, but we'll see... I would very much like to have Mastodon working on this computer as part of my daily driver core requirements!

What if you wanted to install pnpm, but corepack said "go fuck yourself"

Finally found the GitHub page for pnpm so I have any hope of building this garbage myself. Be careful subjecting yourself to the README page. This is in close competition with Wade Wilson for the amount of cancer per square inch.

@MaddieM4 You may enjoy knowing that the expected procedure is to install Node.js and a thing called "corepack", which is like "rustup" in that it downloads native JS toolchain binaries of a version specified in the project directory and transparently runs them when you run pnpm. Isn't that a treat ;P

@mei I'm familiar with corepack. I was specifically avoiding it to avoid polluting my system global namespace. There is no part of the frontend ecosystem that I want to give a persistent home on my computer.
