Screenshot of pdf. 6.3) Registers There are effectively only four registers in the machine which are relevant at the macro —- code level. These are: U, the universal register. U is capable of helding one object of N words, bytes or booleans, where N 1S an arbitrary integer (max. size lMword). WS is the current workspace pointer. ST is the top of stack in the current workspace. PC is the program counter. Most operations in the machine operate on U or on U and the object on top of the stack. U is adjusted by the micro ~- code to the size appropriate to object which it is to contain.
