Nazis, murder, repression
May 6th marks the day the Nazis attacked the German Institute for Sex research in 1933, also known as Hirschfeld institute. There queer people could get counseling, poor people got medical treatman and it tried to educate people about contraception, being trans and much more.
The Nazis attacked, plundered and destroyed it. And later they put queer people in concentration camps. They also worsened the punishment of paragraph 175 of the criminal court, which criminalized gay sex.
May 8th marks the day the Wehrmacht surrendered and the Nazi state effectively ceased to exist.
It marks the day many people could leave the concentration camps and got a chance of continuing their lives.
Guess who had to continue their prison sentences? Queer people.
