why is every documentation we can find about udev either just "here is the rules grammar" or "here is a cookbook of various tweaks you might want to make"

and not an explanation of where udev fits into the "linux desktop ecosystem"?

as a teen we remember finding "writing your first kernel module" tutorials on the internet, for free

who the fuck replaced it with this shit?

@star i linked the "hacker-friendly" kernel module book immediately afterwards

"replaced" is just "the usual social-media-era hype" rhetorical approach for describing "was easier to find via search engines"

@r i hate that my server sometimes only federates everything on a post when i send a reply. because i saw this after i posted it

but yes these courses are also not meant for individuals to do in their free time, more for employers to pay for on your behalf. that would explain the price ^^'

@star yeah i'm familiar with how that works

imo these courses generally have a reputation for being wildly inconsistent (and often quite poorly done), especially in more Silly-Valley-Big-Tech circles that have too much of the cultural disconnect with / disdain for ideas such as "pedagogy"
