i'm curious what content scanning that mastodon is working on will look like. on one hand it makes sense, server admins can be held liable for whatever they're hosting, and anyone who has any expectation of privacy on this network is severely mistaken. on the other hand, given the culture here, i can't imagine that going well?
any automated content scanning has to be ai-based, which everyone hates. they say there's going to be an option to self-host—presumably you'd need a nice gpu for that? and there's also a fediverse auxiliary service provider for those that don't want to self-host.
and like, i'd honestly be uncomfortable with the photos i might post followers-only being uploaded to a third-party service like that? i know it's irrational, they're already on like 50 different hetzners, 20 wasabis and 5 s3's. but still, those are just storage, they don't like, feed them into ai...
