if a website takes up like 2 megs of ram according to the browser task manager why does the browser use like 500 times more memory

Browsers like Chromium run tabs + extensions in their own process and on top of that it needs to be sandboxed so it's why it needs so much RAM to use a browser (while there are browsers that have a monolithic process approach like NetSurf or Servo they tent to be more prone to the domino effect where one tab crashes everything)

There are also factors like how complex is the browser engine meaning it needs to handle more web standards/features
