trans discourse, "what does the "*" in 'trans*' mean?" I've been asked what the asterisk in "trans*" means. This depends largely on who you ask. To me, personally, The * is used to include all possible suffixes, such as "trans" (no suffix), "transgender" and "transsexual".

This makes much more sense in German than in English, because German has many more "common" suffixes, such as "transgeschlechtlich", "transgender", "transident", or "transsexuell". I see it written this way a lot, and so I just copied it, because I personally liked the intention. Is this "better" than writing "trans"? No. I think this would be a pointless discussion to have. I just wrote it this way because I am used to it

re: trans discourse, "what does the "*" in 'trans*' mean?" @star ah I see, that makes sense

I assumed it meant like the typical use of asterisks in language; to indicate a footnote
however it does also make sense to interpret it as a glob

trans discourse, "what does the "*" in 'trans*' mean?" @LunaDragofelis Yeah, good point TBH! I mean, interpreting text is always an exercise left to the reader, and if you feel that this could fit, then yeah, totally!
