ok. i have a PEN (Private Enterprise Number). how do i get something added to the "official" OID database(s) though?

@star we're not aware that there is an official one. just keep track of what OIDs you allocate under your PEN and don't reuse them.

@ireneista oh ok! what i mean is that a lot of oids seem to be indexed by sites like oid-base.com and oidref.com. so i assumed there was something centralized that keeps track of it :3

@star reasonable assumption :) but to the best of our knowledge those sites are just reconstructing it as best they can

@star we'd assume people over the years have discussed it and the sites found those discussions, plus common file formats sometimes embed specific OIDs so their purpose can be deduced from that
