@julia@star the only place i extensively use flatpaks is my steam deck. Why are there 3 separate versions of mesa and other flatpaks installed? Cause the main reason i hate flatpaks is it just causes so many duplicates of stuff and wastes space.
@lily@star because those flatpaks have different pinned version of mesa
mesa can be shared amongst flatpaks, but only when they're on the same version. If a given app isn't actively maintained, it'll lag behind and keep an old version of Mesa (or other shared runtime extensions) pinned and installed.
@julia@star can i force them to all use the same version cause each version of mesa and mesa extras is like a gigabyte. all of these apps work fine on the system mesa on my laptop so i don't see any reasons why they wouldn't work on the same version.
forcing them to use the same version could create unexpected bugs that aren't supported by the developer. The idea of Flatpaks is to provide a stable userspace, one that all but guarantees the user receives the intended experience.
