@star just trying to follow through your logic here, so imagine this said “CW: anti-trans legislation”, what change would that make other than making it less likely for someone to read about the petition intended to counter it?
fedi meta@ticky For one, you wouldn't just CW it like that. If I were to CW this post, I'd likely also include "canpol(canadian politics), petition+", which is a filtering term which is commonly used by individuals who would like to avoid this topic for any reason. "petition+" tells you that the post is about a petition, where the petition is likely aiming for something positive.
You have now made it easier for lots of people to decide, whether they currently have the resources to read the post, whether they'd like to bookmark it for a later time, or whether this topic is currently too triggering for them to contribute positively to it in any positive or constructive manner. It's a respectful thing to do.
