@nileane I personally dislike answering the statement of "we should do this to protect kids" with a statement that even remotely entertains the notion of this whole thing being about children in the first place. It's not. Like most things in right-wing politics, this is a grift designed to get people comfortable with the idea—especially because, if framed like this, it doesn't affect you, the adult.

Confronting back with statements which bring people out of this delusion that this wouldn't impact them, or that this law would work as intended to begin with, has proven to me to be a rather effective method of convincing the "average" uninformed person (given they aren't bigoted from the get go). They don't give a flying shit about children. They never do.

HOWEVER comma, yeah, you still make a good point and I agree with you. It's jusz that the average person has the political attention span of a 1 year old cat with zoomies, so I personally like to put my most effective argument first
