disassembled my windsynth for the first time after owning it for four years~

next i'll clean out the gunk that's accumulated in and around the spit tube, or maybe just change the entire thing

(seriously whoever thought running this through the entire instrument was a good idea deserves to be [insert violent fantasy here])

((although i gotta say the tube itself still looks pretty clean))

might polish the keys and octave rollers too, some of them look pretty dull by now
a disassembled electronic instrument (akai EWI solo). the main PCB has been taken out, along with a smaller PCB that connects the menu buttons, dial and screen. left behind in the front part of the case are two PCBs connecting the keys and hold/interval buttons, the spit tube, and the breath sensor tube, which also connects to one of the aforementioned PCBs. the back part of the case contains another small PCBs connected to the right thumb and pitch bend plates. the bottom bell stands upside down so that the speaker is facing upwards. nearby are the octave roller assembly, the battery, and various parts and tools.

hm that's water damage isn't it? that might explain some of the problems i've been having with this thing, especially after long play sessions…
a closer look at the menu PCB. it has white stains along its traces.

isoprop with a toothbrush didn't do anything

but this is probably not spit/condensation like i assumed. the stains don't look like some liquid ran down the entire thing, they're fairly regular and enclose groups of solder joints.

maybe it's just flux that didn't get cleaned up properly and damaged the solder mask a little? is that a thing that happens?

but it also corroded some solder joints

specifically the ones on the main PCB that connect it with the keys

which might cause issues with their responsiveness i think?

hm actually isoprop did something

didn't get rid of everything but at least that loose residue is gone
