data sciencering my mastodon data exports, shitpost I wanted to find out how my ratio of own posts to boosts changed over time and did a bit of pythoning. I uhhh,, was surprised by the graph of the last few months? Chat how cooked am I?? thisisfine

(Added a few useful event markers, with the mentioned persons' consent. @electrichanna @star)
A line graph entitled "Lyn's activity on Fedi (rolling window 4 weeks)", with the x-axis being the months from 2022-11 to 2025-10, and the y-axis going from 0 up to about 250 per month. There are three individual lines, representing boosts, posts, and replies by me over time. Also there are some vertical lines marking certain events in time, specifically "Migration to chaos.social" (2024-08-13), "Hanni joins Fedi" (2025-01-10) and "Flori returns to Fedi" (2025-07-21). Before the instance migration, posts were almost none, mostly less than 10 replies per month, and about 15 to 80 boosts per month (fluctuating a lot). From about 2024-05 to 2024-08 there is a major dip in all activity. Then after migrating, boosts got to about as much as before the dip again, replies jumped to around 20-30 per month (except around turn of the year, there were almost none), and posts jumped to 15 per month, then flattening out a bit lower but staying roughly consistent. After Hanni joined fedi in 2025-01, there is a noticable steady increase in posts and replies. Boosts may have increased slightly on average. Then at the end of 2025-07 when Flori got back on fedi, my replies skyrocket from about 30 to over 230 by today, my posts increase a bit faster and from 20 to 60. Boosts also seem get a bit more on average.
