"I'm dealing with serious personal challenges at the moment, so things like content warnings and alt text aren't something I can focus on right now."
i don't know. i don't think that having personal difficulties justifies excluding blind people or causing harm through triggering people. feel free to debate me on this, but my current stance is that if this is you, i'm blocking you. this feels like a major red flag to me
re: fedi meta, rant@star if anything, what youâre doing with this post is more of a red flag to me. you seem like the kind of person whoâd watch my every step until the moment i say something ever so slightly out of line, then immediately blast me on hashtag fedi block and try to cut me off from everyone i know or could know. or something close to that. safe to say, i would not feel safe around you. itâs all this fake âoh look at me iâm so accessibility and avoid triggering people by using CWsâ virtue signalling and then you make mentally ill people walk on eggshells around you because youâll block and publicly shame them if they act too mentally ill. donât get me wrong CWs and alt text are epic but like still.
someone not CWing anything is like âmeh this is kind of ass, i guess i wonât boost a lot of posts from this account because i would rather have CWs in my outboxâ. IMO if high visibility isnât desired simply privating or unlisting sensitive posts should be (âbare minimumâ) enough (if the intended audience is ok with this), they arenât gonna be shown to anyone except followers and followers of boosters (and then itâs kind of on the boosters to boost posts without a CW so complain to/unfollow them/disable boosts if this affects you (and if not, really who cares, just donât boost)). if you want to share your posts to a general audience, or you know that your local audience needs certain CWs, then you add CWs.
alt text is like, if itâs just some shitpost, i think it doesnât matter if it has alt text or not. sure it will exclude blind people and people with shit internet but shitposts already exclude anyone who just doesnât get the joke (and explaining it can easily ruin it), and itâs often very difficult if not impossible to translate those from one format to another. generally, shitpost or not, i think itâs just like translating a post into multiple languages, which, barely anyone does here. encourage it, but donât punish those who donât do it. maybe apply that to CWs as well to some extent
re: fedi meta, rant@kimapr > sure it will exclude blind people and people with shit internet but shitposts already exclude anyone who just doesnât get the joke
re: fedi meta, rant@kimapr Like. Would you also say this to a blind person, especially one IRL, or do you just prefer to not think before posting? Not sure which is the case here but holy cow anyway
