polyphony + polyproto = A free and open source communications suite in the making. Federated, decentralized, delightful to use.

Proprietary chat services suck. The Polyphony project aims to change that by developing @polyproto, a federated identity and trusted message exchange protocol, as well chat software and -standards built on top of it. We are building sonata (a polyproto home server for identity federation), symfonia (a chat server implementing polyproto-chat), and a client to tie it all together. Our goal is a federated chat experience that feels at least as polished and easy to use as proprietary alternatives.

Through the MPL-2.0 license, we ensure that our software can be used by anyone, for any(-ish) purpose. The only major thing we ask is that improvements and changes to our software stay open source as well. Our software should benefit the public, not corporations.

Additionally, our Code of Conduct is a modified version of the Contributor Covenant, explicitly including otherkin and plural individuals and explicitly banning AI contributions.

December 12th is the targeted date for a v0.1.0 release of sonata, our @polyproto core home server implementation.
Planned for this initial proof-of-concept version are all features required to federate identities and verify messages sent from other people on any home server. Functionality/features above that are not likely to be included.

repo-slopscore update! repo-slopscore now shows you when the AI detection signals were authored in the repository. blobcateyes This piece of information is a first step in making it easier to see whether a repository has revised their AI/LLM policy, i.e. whether the AI commits are already long in the past.

On repos that have already been scanned, you can simply click the "Re-scan this repository" button to fetch this information for any repository. blobcat

`repo-slopscan` update; fighting ai code (+) @lumi Each detected signal is assigned a signal type (for AI authorship, AI co-authorship, etc.), which in turn is assigned penalty weight value. For each occurrence of a signal, that penalty is deducted from the perfect (100) score. This gets repeated for the entire commit history, or up to 5000 commits.

re: Fighting AI/LLM slop-assisted/generated code (+) @swirly Yes; tools like these will never be 100% accurate. I am currently not sure how I'd approach analyzing the contents of a CLAUDE.md or AGENTS.md file to determine whether it is meant to attract or deter LLMs. But the existence of such a file is, in my opinion, a potential indicator for AI activity. As such, it gets reported; but if there aren't any other signals, you'll still have an A+ rating

Fighting AI/LLM slop-assisted/generated code (+) Are you tired of having to manually traverse commit histories to find out whether a repository has been made using AI/LLMs? There's now an easier way!

You can access the first version of repo-slopscore at slopscan.ava.pet, paste in https:// git repo URLs and have it scan repositories for signs of AI activity. The source code is, of course, available at codeberg.org/polyphony/repo-slopscore !

The prototype is most definitely rough around the edges, but also functional! You can read more about how the internals of it work in the README.md in our repository! neocat_boop_blep

Many reasons! For one, I happened to find myself with extra free time on my hands paws and found it to be a good idea to put such software in the hands of an organization with existing community contact channels, CI and hosting resources and other infrastructure.

Secondly, we would like to depend on as little slop-software as possible in our finished product. Sadly, it is quite hard and time consuming to thoroughly assess a repository for sloppiness. This is a problem predestined to be solved by computers, and as such, it makes sense to create and share such a solution with the larger community! ​neobot_salute
