@j12i hmm unfortunately this is not trivial because of the implementation and also how they're load-bearing UX-wise in a lot of subtler places, but keep em coming

@MaddieM4 Right, when we abstract ourselves away from human-scale it becomes impossible to grasp the ethics of whatever it is we're doing. I know how to be kind to 10 of my friends, not 1000. That's just too much to think about, and it's an overarching theme in the industry that we accept there "will be loses because that big number is axiomatically necessary".

hey fedi, i would like to commission a little lineart sketch from someone, kind of resembling the artstyle found in US patents / their diagrams. do you know someone that understands this kind of retro-minimalist aesthetic? boost_requested

So it is becoming clear to me that the aim here is not to do a cohost! in any complete replication sense, but that instead I want to get to a middle-ground where this will be compatible with fedi social norms AND be healthier for the user. So it is like responsive design, upgrading the more people around you use it.. But still being good before that.

OK, going strong for now. We have the git repo up on our forge: src.pupc.at/nuffy/log/main. This is currently using legit, but we've been wanting to switch to https://char.lt's sorcery git-ssg: char.lt/blog/2026/09/sorcery-repo-viewer/

Anyway, no distractions while we're already generating many many thoughts (stored in-tree) and trying to learn a new codebase... Onwards.

Oh, you want to know what we actually did? Yes.
- Made some corners sharper
- Deleted some chrome-only CSS
- Renamed
- Changed default for opening posts to be the fullscreen ("full-mode") view
- switched to pnpm
- Unread notifications no longer shown

Cya soon. Hopefully our ADHD graces us with more than one day to tick on this, and hopefully it stays sufficiently whimsical (^:

hello fedi. i am back, it would appear. i was away because you kept on liking my posts too much. this had dire consequences, such as: I kept on checking my notifications and having conversations with all of you wonderful people about all sorts of things. It was great, but it was a bit much

So now I am going to thread about soft forking Phanpy to create a more ADHD-friendly client. Hopefully. The name is Nuffy, because it lets you have enough.

@piegames so this setup is very simple: camera (EOS R10), tripod (cheapest one), builtin camera mic. something i would like to have is always-on midi capture regardless of what the rest of my workflow might be, which would require employing a linux sbc or even an mcu.

haven't gotten around to that yet, but it would allow progressive enhancement; e.g. rendering the midi down to a nicer audio without the key clacks from my nails - and that could be done in post lining up the two audio tracks.

but as you can see this is unnecessary :D most important thing IME is to just have the least friction. today this is: screw camera onto tripod mount, put on tripod, start piano, hit record, mash away. if it loses that mechanicality (and perhaps requires me to launch a program on my pc) then it makes me much more likely to procrastinate

@joepie91 yes, this is a really neat concept and you have basically Done A Computer Science. you should name it yourself! a mpmc [something] channel

it's something like a bike chain where gears can turn things both ways from any end of the system. i wanted to say it's like a (literal) rope but ropes tend to be elastic and so they don't work in this way (they are pull-only from both sides)

climate crisis, number crunching so just doing some really rough numbers.. climate lag is 20-30 years, we call that 25. that means we're experiencing shit from up to 2001's emissions. since then the graph has done this for co2 emissions: ourworldindata.org/grapher/annual-co2-emissions-per-country?country=~OWID_WRL&tab=line

then we have a fair ways to go if we assume that the planet is a linear function mapping co2 to temperature(sst). it probably isn't. but see
bsky.app/profile/climateofgavin.bsky.social/post/3msw2bo5wxs2j

i hope the europe i move to is more ready for this than i am
