Linux Mobile/Desktop enthusiast, Wayland enjoyer, Flatpak fan. I will post about Mobile Linux (mostly PostmarketOS) and other Linux desktop shenanigans. Also expect commentary on programming languages and technology in general.
Technology is political and I am as well. Expect my personal opinions. My opinion is not set in stone, please discuss with me and help me see the other side where I am wrong.
Please do not talk to me about LLMs.

In high school I once replaced my phone with a mp3 player I built raspberry pi, some buttons and cables and people where telling me it looks like a bomb.
@betaigeuze@chfkch Hmm I guess it's so well integrated, that you don't even really recognize it, which is great. In steam you can go to the game properties -> compatibility and ceck "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool". If what shows up in the box below is proton then it runs through proton. Native games have "Steam Linux Runtime" in the box
TL;DR: is it does some synchronization that is usually handled by the windows kernel. Wine can handle this in userspace but that's slow and NTSYNC does it in-kernel.
Edit: my original comment was in no way intended as criticism of you or you featuring those changes on the weekly mobile Linux news. I love the work you are doing and it's a great way to catch up with what's been happening
@linmob Seeing all the progress from TheMightyCat kind of pisses me off. They Vibe-mainline everything with AI and don't do it correctly. I've only looked at sensors but there they use bit-banged i2c to talk to the sensors directly instead of using the SLPI coprocessor which is made for this and already has mainline infrastructure.
PostmarketOS has a AI policy that explicitly forbids it so these changes won't be merged and it just kinda sucks seeing someone build a vibe-coded project ontop.
When gaming on Linux. Check if /dev/ntsync exists. If not the ntsync kernel module is not loaded and you're missing out on a lot of performance. On #NixOS you can load it automatically at boot using boot.kernelModules = [ "ntsync" ];.
ntsync has shown to double fps in some games so it's a optimization you don't want to miss out on. It only applies for windows games running through wine and proton though so this won't help you if you only play linux-native games.
Boneworks is such a genius VR Game. What Valve did for game physics with Half Life 2, SLZ did for VR physics with Boneworks. In this game you have full body physics and things actually have a weight so interacting with them feels realistic. It seems the rest of the VR industry still hasn't caught up to this yet.
If you have a VR headset and think you'd enjoy a story game with exploration, physics puzzles and cool lore I'd highly recommend giving this a play.
Btw this is running on Linux through WiVRN (I'm so happy that VR is finally usable on Linux). Sorry for the video quality, had to compress it to get it down to size.
@star Imagine starting to work on a talk earlier than a week before. Couldn't be me. All I currently have is a text file with some ideas :3
I sure am anticipating your talk though. I've been planning to get you to infodump about polyproto to me but it's never happened because I was too shy to ask
I hate how locked down the big tech internet nowadays is. I would like to learn about new battlerap events from dlttly but they only post those to instagram and facebook. Both of which I do not have accounts on and both of which have no API or RSS feed for me to pull new posts from.
This is so annoying. Maybe I'll try to encourage them to create a mastodon account at the next event.
As someone that has not much experience with shopping and has only browsed categories like "male L" for sizes in the past, how do I know the correct size for me when buying more feminine clothing? Is there some guide I can follow for figuring out the correct sizes for me?
stress? re: sleep-@fugi Have you tried living without ADHD meds for a while? It's not helping my productivity but I am way less stressed without them + better sleep
